Flick Off says Green Glade Students

To help create awareness of global warming at their school, students from Green Glade Sr. Public School in Port Credit are spreading the message of Flick Off.
Grade 8 students Emma Street, 13, Jenna Shore and Sarah Barbash, both 14, are the co-chairs of a committee they have created to help raise awareness and funds for the Flick Off Organization, an environmental non-government organization that promotes the reduction of energy consumption across Canada.
Made up of 14 members, the committee held a fundraiser barbecue yesterday to raise money to send solar panels to Africa in an effort to help alleviate the effects of global warming on families there.
Earlier in the year the committee sold bracelets and collected donations for the campaign at their school, but decided they needed to spread the message to their community.
In December of last year, Street received a letter from World Vision Canada that spoke about the number of children dying around the world, especially in Africa, as a result of global warming.
She then attended a conference on global warming and said she became inspired.
“My dad gave me this Flick Off flyer and I talked it over with my friends and decided to bring the campaign to our school,” said Street. “We also chose the Flick Off organization because we noticed around our school that many lights and computers would be left on in the classrooms when no one was inside and we said that’s not right.”
Shore said her and her friends knew they could do something to change the situation at their school.
After getting the idea passed by their principal, parent and student councils and the superintendent, the Flick Off Committee held an assembly at their school to create awareness of the organization and its campaign on global warming.
The barbecue fundraiser had over 30 volunteers helping out, made up of students, parents and teachers.
Charles Sousa, MPP for Mississauga-South also attended the event in support.
Food for the day was donated by Maple Lodge Farms, while McDonald’s and Battaglia’s Lorne Park Marketplace donated drinks and condiments, respectively.
In addition to the barbecue, the day was filled with face-painting, games, activities, raffles and a bake sale.
Expecting close to 200 people to attend, organizers said they hoped to raise $300.
“Each solar panel costs $150, so we hope to send at least one,” said Shore. “And World Vision takes care of sending the panels to Africa.”
All it takes are little baby steps along the way to create some change, adds Street.

Green Glade Flick Off BBQ-Afterparty

So today was the Green Glade Family BBQ fundraiser. It was probably the best one I've been to for a long long time. The day was just awesome and the activities were double awesome! This like drip drip drop, foot ball throw, frisbees...well that might not soud as interesting but trust me if you were there...this would have been probably been "better than porn" for some people. Especially when we got to throw a wet sponge at one of our favourite teachers and throw a WHOLE bucket of water on him and his wife! I had signed up to volunteers and I was the house DJ and that was a very, very fun job. All and all this BBQ fundraiser was very very well planed and turned out way better thatn I had expected to. Special thanks to the Green Glade Flickers and the Flick Off Commitee: Jenna Shore, Emma (I don't know your last name), and Sarah El-Masri for organising this event. Photos and videos of this event will be posted on various sites of mines soon. Oh and as I was writing this I just heard that the total amout of money raised was just over 1 grand! Wow! http://whattheheck.tk

Car Thief Soils Himself After Being Caught

Deputy Chad Taylor from Centerville, Utah has an unusual catch to praise about. His fighting against crime portfolio is now enriched by making a criminal crap his pants. He sure deserves a medal for that.

As reported by dailystar.co.uk, the police said two teens were involved in several car burglaries cars over the weekend. One of the burglars targeted the wrong car, because he instantly found out that an off-duty deputy was sitting inside of it.

"The suspect opened the door, the deputy jumped out. It startled our teenager and, hum, the only way I can put it is, he soiled his pants," said Lt. Paul Child of Centerville Police Department to KSL TV.

The cop was driving home after his shift. He was still wearing his uniform, but driving his personal car. When the deputy surprised the thief, he took off running. A short chase followed, but the teen got away.

Not without leaving something behind, since the thief lost his shoes. By then, officers had set up a perimeter in the area and had began looking for the suspect. After a short while, police saw the teen running into a house and arrested him there.

It was not a pleasant catch due to the fact the 16 year old delinquent had gotten so scared that he had managed to lose control of some of his bodily functions. In other words, he crapped his pants. Must have been one smelly situation... But look at the bright side: police could've also caught him by the trail of feces left behind.

The teen then told the officer where to find the other suspect, while the police have already submitted the case to juvenile court. We don’t even want to know all the jokes the young thief will probably have to bare for the rest of his life. A couple of them cross our minds right now, but we'll just leave it at that...

MISSING LINK FOUND! MAN'S APE ANCESTRY PROVEN!?!?!?!

Today, at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, a revolutionary discovery -- one that will stand as a milestone for paleontologists and evolutionists everywhere -- was announced. Scientists based at the University of Oslo have discovered “Ida,” also known as Darwinius masillae, a 47-million-year-old fossil that has been proclaimed the “missing link” in connecting human skeletal structure to early mammals.

Scientists found Ida in Messel Pit, Germany and soon found out that she is about twenty times older than most fossils related to human evolution. What makes Ida so special is that despite her classification as an early prosimian (lemurs), she has certain undeniable human characteristics such as forward facing eyes and even an opposable thumb.

This is an exciting and validating day for scientists everywhere. Broadcaster and naturalist Sir David Attenborough has said: “This little creature is going to show us our connection with all the rest of the mammals.”

Head on over to The Link for pictures, video and more information about Ida and the team of researchers behind her. Also don’t miss what’s up at the open source journal PLoS One to read about the scientists’ findings.

Massive Amazon Fail

I don’t know for sure if this issue with published blogs on the Kindle is still a problem, but one thing is for sure: Amazon has a PR nightmare on its hands if one is still able to copy blog content on the Kindle for sale as easily as it was described in this article.

Publishing blogs to the Kindle was supposed to be a convenience to the users, however, the problem of people being able to take this only to fake the blogs being published themselves created a massive headache for blog owners and Amazon alike. Frankly, if I were a blog owner and my content was being pirated, I might be inclined to hold Amazon responsible.

But it is also possible that I am overreacting. After all, it is possible that Amazon has learned a valuable lesson with this. Hit the comments and let me know what you think about this situation where the Kindle was seeing faked blog feeds
being used. Is this a dangerous thing or just silly?

WTH UPDAE-VICTORIA DAY

So I'm making this blog because I haven't posted any for a while and I am very sorry to for this considering that I now have reached over 1000 combined subscribers to my blogs (blogs with an "s" because I have a Tumblr, Xanga, Blogger, Worpress, Blogcentral and manyother blog accounts but with the same postings because I use a delivery web-app called ping.fm). I've been doing pretty well and I will be posting more news blogs and other types of blogs when my year end projects are over.

Thank you for reading and please subscribe if you haven't!

Troops claim 'supernatural powers' after pygmy sodomy

GOVERNMENT troops sodomised pygmies in March in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, believing they would gain supernatural powers, a regional rights group said.

"Some soldiers from the 85th Brigade sodomised three male pygmies to gain supernatural powers and protection in Kisa village in Walikale territory,'' the Human Rights League of the Great Lakes said.

"The village chief was stripped and (sodomised) in the presence of his wife, his children and daughter in-law.

"The children in turn were stripped and raped in front of their father."

It said armed groups in the region also abused the pygmies.

Elderly citizens and children were also being raped by the armed groups and wayward FARDC soldiers in eastern DRC, it added.

The pygmies live essentially as subsistence hunter-gatherers in the forests in the DRC's equatorial zones and have been targeted by militia groups in the past.

Among the armed groups roaming the eastern part of Congo are the Rwandan Hutu Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda rebels.

Some of its members are accused of being among the main perpetrators of Rwanda's 1994 genocide by Hutus against the Tutsi minority.

The United Nations and global human rights organisations have accused the FDLR of engaging in mass murder, rape and pillage of locals' property.
